Leizhou
Leizhou ( Chinese 雷州市 , Pinyin Léizhōu Shì ) is an independent city in the Chinese province of Guangdong . It belongs to the district-free city of Zhanjiang , administers an area of 3523 km², on which about 1.48 million inhabitants (2015) lived. Cantonese is spoken in Leizhou . The city is located on the Leizhou Peninsula ( Leizhou Bandao ) between the Gulf of Tonking and the South China Sea .

At the end of 2015, there were 1,476,900 people in Leizhou, of whom 422,500 were urban residents (28.61%) and 1,054,400 were rural residents (71.39%). However, at the same time, there were 1,773,516 people registered in 434,010 households in Leizhou. The registered population consists of 945 554 men (53.3%) and 827 962 (46.7%) women. The resident population increased from 1,175,200 in 1991 to 1,476,900 in 2016; in 2015 the birth rate was 13.36 ‰, the death rate was 6.30 ‰ and the natural population growth was 7.06 ‰ .

The climate of Leizhou is characterized by mild winters, long warm summers and a short autumn; there is practically no frost. Because of its geographic location, it receives large amounts of moisture, downhill rain , and rain in the wake of typhoons .
The average annual temperature in Leizhou is around 22 ° C. The coolest month is January with an average of 15.5 ° C, while July is the warmest with an average of 28.4 ° C. The extremes measured are 0 ° C on December 2 and 29, 1975 and 38.5 ° C on June 8, 1977. There are an average of 2003.6 hours of sunshine per year, the relative humidity is 84% and the average Wind speed at 3.6 meters per second.
Precipitation falls on an average of 135 days a year, adding up to 1711.6 mm per year. There is a pronounced dry season between November and March, when north winds bring dry continental air; the rainfall is only 20-30 mm per month, with January being the driest month. Less than 10% of the annual rainfall falls during these five months. Occasionally the dry season lasts until May, which then leads to reduced yields in agriculture. The rainy season, when the south winds blow moist sea air onto the continent, lasts from July to September. During this period, 60–70% of the annual rainfall falls. The wettest month is July, with between 279 mm and 353 mm of rain.
Due to geographical features, there are clear climatic differences within the territory of Leizhou. The north and east receive significantly more precipitation than the southwest. In the municipality of Kelu, an average of 1775 mm annual precipitation is measured, in Yangtian 1711 mm and in the eastern municipalities of Tiaofeng , Yingli and Longmen 1912 mm. In the hill country in the middle of Leizhou the precipitation amounts to 1593 mm per year, in the southwest on the coast ( Beihe , Fangcan , Zhaodou ) however only 1180 mm. Here, the average annual temperatures and the number of hours of sunshine are higher than in the north or east.
The Leizhou area is regularly affected by typhoons , which arise either near the Philippines or in the South China Sea ( Spratly Islands , Zhongsha Islands ). Typhoon season begins in May and ends in November. In three out of four years, Leizhou is directly hit by a typhoon at least once, an average of 2-3 times a year, in extreme cases 8 times, if it comes under the influence of a typhoon. Heavy rain and storm surges cause damage to agriculture.

At the community level, Leizhou is divided into three street districts and 18 large communities.
Attractions
The Leizu Temple in honor of the first imperial governor in the Chen Wenyu region has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (4-181) since 1996 .
