Lekker Energy Cup
The Foxes Tournament (formerly Lekker Energy Cup) is one of the largest indoor handball youth tournaments in Germany. In 1978 this tournament was launched by Birgit Refle, who has been the tournament director to this day. What started back then with only female participating teams in the 4 sports halls in Senftenberger Ring has developed over the years into a popular youth tournament for teams from all over Germany, sometimes with the participation of teams from neighboring European countries (Czech Republic, Switzerland, Poland, Denmark, Iceland , Croatia, Austria).
For 28 years, the youth tournament, which is held for all youth division on one weekend in various sports halls - mainly in the Berlin district of Reinickendorf - was known as the fox tournament.
In 2006 the company Nuon became the main sponsor and the name was changed to Nuon-Cup. In 2010, changes in the company finally changed this name to Lekker-Energie-Cup with the main sponsor Lekker-Energie; the organization by the handball department of the Reinickendorfer Füchse, meanwhile since 2012 Füchse Berlin Reinickendorf, has not changed despite these name developments. From 2013 the tournament will be nicknamed the Günter Hampel memorial tournament in memory of the great handball fan who died in 2012 and who, as a trainer and functionary, always turned to the youth.
The tournament offers both performance-oriented and mass sport-oriented competitions in all age groups, from female and male E to A youth (9-18 years). In particular, the performance-oriented tournaments of the male A, B and C youth welcomes the best youth teams in Germany. With around 150 registered teams from Berlin and the whole of Germany, the tournament is one of the largest indoor handball tournaments in the youth field in Germany. A total of around 3000 participants and supervisors, referees and helpers, guests and spectators take part in the two match days every year.
All clubs in Germany for girls and boys from A to E youth were able to participate and register. 170 teams with around 2,000 players had registered for 2013. The participants came from Berlin and Brandenburg , Saxony-Anhalt , Schleswig-Holstein , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , Lower Saxony and Saxony, and Austria . 400 games were kicked off on August 31 and September 1, 2013 in a total of twelve sports halls in Berlin. 200 volunteers were on duty.
