Lemke Meyers
Lemke Meyers alias Cordes († 1594 in Hamburg ) was a woman who was executed on charges of witchcraft .
Death sentence
Since she had fallen away from God and "allied and mixed with the annoying Satan", Lemke Meyer had to answer in a trial in 1594 before the Hamburg lower court. In addition, other people suffered damage as a result of magic she wielded on livestock and pasture land, the prosecution said. Her official defense was taken over by Hinrich Mengart, who portrayed his client as a "weak tool" whom the devil had seduced with promises of money. She also deeply regrets her actions. Therefore, he called for death by beheading instead of burning, but was not heard. The Hamburg council, which represented the city's higher court, did not revise the decision of the lower court on October 29, whereupon Lemke Meyers died a fire.
