The lemniscate handlebar is a coupling gear in which the paths of points in the coupling have the shape of lemniscates . The lemniscate handlebar is used in practice as a straight steering gear. Only one of the two intersecting parts of the lemniscate, which are approximately straight lines, is used.

A well-known application is the so-called Alsthom handlebar in rail vehicles for the resilient vertical movement of a wheel set on the i. d. R. Bogie of locomotives (see picture opposite).

Another known application is the Watt linkage in road vehicles.
