The Lenin Prospectus ( Russian Ленинский проспект , Leninski prospekt ) in the Russian city of Kaliningrad , formerly Koenigsberg , is one of seven prospectuses in the city. It extends from the forecourt of the Kaliningrad South Railway Station , the ploshchad Kalinina (Kalinin Square), for a length of about three kilometers to the square of the victory (Russian: ploshchad Pobeda). He bridges the cathedral island and the Moskowski prospekt on an approximately 550 meter long elevated road .

Large parts of Lenin Prospect have six lanes and four lanes on the elevated road, each with two tram tracks in the middle. Apart from its function as an important thoroughfare in north-south direction, the Lenin Prospect is an important shopping street in both the northern and southern parts.

history

After the Second World War, the former Königsberg street Posener Strasse, Vorstädtische Langgasse, Kneiphöfer Langgasse, Kantstrasse were renamed uliza Majakowskowo and the stone dam was renamed Schitomirskaja uliza. In 1963 the two streets were united to form Lenin Prospect; a section of the former Tragheimer Kirchenstraße as well as the cleared ruins of the old town church and the Steindammer church were included. In 1972 the elevated road was completed, which replaced the Green Bridge and the Krämer Bridge .

building

Four buildings from the Königsberg time have been preserved south of the Pregel on the street, two residential buildings in the area of the former Posener Straße, the building of the former Reichsbahndirektion halfway up the former suburban Langgasse and the New Stock Exchange (Kaliningrad) on the old Pregel. Today, prefabricated buildings and modern new buildings dominate the street .

The eight-story Hotel Kaliningrad is located at the turn towards the former Steindamm, while the Olsztyn restaurant, also from the Soviet era, is located in the southern area of the street .

In the green area by the House of the Arts , the former location of the Haberberg Trinitatis Church , the Lenin monument has been located since 2007, which previously stood on Victory Square.
