The handlebar approach is a part of the outer link control a steam engine, the best known of their classification as Heusinger control has been executed.

Application and purpose

The handlebar attachment transfers the movements of the crosshead linearly to the handlebar of the Heusinger control. In some steam locomotive designs, a direct connection between the cross head and the handlebar has been made, so that a separate handlebar attachment can be dispensed with. That clearly determined the geometry of the drive and the controls .
