Leonardo Barré

Leonardo Barré (Barrae, Barret, Barri) (* around 1510 in Limoges , † in Rome (?) After 1555 ) was a French singer, conductor and composer.

As a student of Adrian Willaert in Venice , it was not difficult for him to find a job in Rome and so in 1537 the papal band accepted him as a singer. In 1555 he lost this position and became Kapellmeister in San Lorenzo. It is believed that he stayed in Rome until his death.

Willaert's influence is unmistakable in his works: six motets and nine madrigals have survived .
