Leonardo Paniagua

Leonardo Paniagua is a Dominican Bachata singer .

Paniagua's musical career began rather by accident. A friend, the singer Danilo Rodriguez , invited him to visit him while recording in the Radio Guarachita record studio . One of the accompanists, who knew he had an excellent voice, convinced the producer to do a test recording with him. Paniagua sang the title Amada, amante , to which the studio musicians improvised an accompaniment. The producer was won over by the recording and released it as the B-side of Felipe Rodríguez ' single Insaciable . This was played on Radio Guarachita, became an instant hit and made it known nationwide.

In addition to Luis Segura , Paniagua became the most successful singer on Radio Guarachita with songs such as Un beso y una flor , Chiquitita , Mi secreto , El necio and Ella se llamaba Marta . In the 1970s and 1980s, bachata was considered vulgar music for the lower classes of the population and was associated with prostitution, crime and poverty. In contrast to Bachateros like Marino Perez and Blas Duran , he set himself apart from this reputation and created bachatas in the style of ballads. Chiquitita (1979) became one of the most successful bachatas ever recorded (and later covered by ABBA ).

In 1986 he moved to Kubaney Records . With the song Fue do lois dos , a duo with Esteban Mariano , accompanied by guitarist Nelson Parades , he was the first Bachatero to win a Premio Casandra in 1998 .
