Leontina Albina Espinoza

Leontina Albina Judith Espinoza (* 1925 , † 7. August 1998 ) was a Chilean woman who it was known to have the most children in the 20th century. In the Guinness Book of Records , it was the first time in 1983 listed as a mother of 55 children. However, this record could not be checked and was therefore revoked by the editorial team in 1988 (according to another source in 1991).

When she tried to register the birth of another daughter in 1995, the authorities became suspicious of her old age of 69. Research showed that not only was this child not hers, but that she had passed off several other children born to other women as her own. According to this, only the number of 14 own children born in Chile since 1955 would be guaranteed. In addition, there are the children who were born from Argentina before the family immigrated in 1953, but these were no longer detectable.

According to a report in the Spartanburg Herald-Journal from 1988, she lived with her husband and 18 children in a narrow wooden hut on the edge of a slum in the city of Colina . The Chilean reported that she was born a triplet herself. She explained the high number of children with many triplet and twin births, so that by 1953 she would have had a total of 24 children.
