Leopold Ettlinger (microbiologist)

Leopold Ettlinger (born October 3, 1914 in Karlsruhe ; † August 23, 2008 in Zurich ) was a Swiss microbiologist .

He came to Switzerland from Germany in 1935 to study agronomy at the ETH Zurich . He received his doctorate there in 1945 with the thesis "About the genus Crumenula sensu Rehm with special consideration of the Crumenula shoot death of the Pinus species". 1958–1982 he was Professor of Agricultural Bacteriology and Fermentation Biology at the ETH Zurich. In 1963 the professorship was renamed "Professorship for Microbiology". In 1982 he retired . He was married to the archaeologist Elisabeth Ettlinger .
