Leopold Horacek

Leopold Horacek (born September 23, 1907 in Vienna ; † February 25, 1977 ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). From 1946 to 1959 he was district chairman of the 22nd district of Vienna, Donaustadt .

After Horacek joined the socialist youth organization at the age of 14, he was sentenced to eight months' imprisonment during the Austrian Civil War due to his participation in the Republican Protection League in the Karl-Marx-Hof and also sentenced to six months in the Wöllersdorf detention center. Even after the National Socialists came to power in 1938, Horacek was arrested several times for political reasons. Horacek was also imprisoned several times during the Nazi dictatorship. After the end of the Second World War, Horacek took over the position of district chairman of the Danube city between 1946 and 1959. After his death, the residential complex built between 1975 and 1977 in Lenkgasse was named in Leopold-Horacek-Hof . Horacek was buried in the Aspern cemetery .
