Leosthenes (Admiral)
Leosthenes , Greek : Λεωσθένης († 361 BC ), was an admiral of the Athenian fleet (navy) . A ship association was subordinate to him, which in the year 361 BC. In the area of the Cyclades against Alexander of Pherai , with whom Athens was at war because of his actions against the Thessalian cities. Alexander succeeded in a surprise attack against the Athenian fleet, which cost these 5 triremes and 600 men. Leosthenes survived the battle, but was sentenced to death and executed by the Athenians for this defeat .
