The Lepcha ( Leptša ) or Róng are a small ethnic group in the eastern Himalayan region . Her mother tongue is the Lepcha of the same name .

The Lepcha people

The Lepcha are a Tibetan Burmese mountain farming people who have been settled in the Eastern Himalayas region , in Sikkim , Kalimpong and Darjiling , as well as in Bhutan and as a small minority in Nepal for hundreds of years . Although they are the indigenous people of Sikkim, their origin is still not clearly determined. It is believed that the Lepchas may have emigrated from Tibet to Sikkim.

The Lepchas today belong to the Tibetan Buddhist faith. They used to practice a shamanic religion called Mun .
