Les Arts Décoratifs

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Les Arts Décoratifs is a French non-profit association founded in 1882 with headquarters in Paris , which is dedicated to promoting the decorative arts (interior design) in France. Originally called Union centrale des arts décoratifs (UCAD), it was renamed Les Arts Décoratifs in 2004 . The purpose of the association is to take care of outstanding collections, their cultural dissemination, maintenance of training centers, and the promotion of individual artists.

The association looks after three important Paris collections:

  • 107 rue de Rivoli: in the Marsan wing and Marsan pavilion of the Louvre Palace are the Musée des Arts décoratifs (Museum of Decorative Arts), the Musée de la Mode et du Textile (Museum of Fashion and Textiles), the Musée de la Publicité (museum of advertising) and the Bibliothèque des Arts décoratifs (specialist library of decorative arts);
  • 63 rue de Monceau: The Hôtel Camondo is home to the Musée Nissim de Camondo , one of the most important collections in France, which preserves the interior of a classic French city apartment of the upper middle class in its original condition. The museum is named after the French banker and fighter pilot Nissim de Camondo (1892–1917).
  • 266 boulevard Raspail: The École Camondo has been located here since 1988 (which was previously located in the outbuildings of the Hôtel Camondo), a specialist institute for design and interior architecture.
