Historical reading box (19th century or early 20th century)

The reading box was invented in the 18th century by reform pedagogue and former businessman Johann Peter Hundiker and used with great success. This new didactic instrument was soon introduced by Johann Bernhard Basedow in his Philanthropinum Dessau .

The reading box is still used today in Montessori education. Another area of application is adult literacy .

application

The teacher gives a word that can be written as accurately as possible on the blackboard or on the demonstration reading box. The students repeat this slowly and then try to write it down with the letter cards in their reading box. Then they compare their work with the one given. Errors can be recognized acoustically while reading your own word.
