Leslie Castle

Leslie Castle is a castle just west of the village of Auchleven , about 45 km northwest of Aberdeen in the Scottish county of Aberdeenshire .

history

Leslie Castle was built around 1661 on the site of an earlier castle, presumably a wooden moth . It is considered "the last fortified house in Scotland".

The renovation of the palace began in the 1970s and was completed in the 1980s. In 1995 a meeting of Clan Leslie took place at the castle. Today Leslie Castle serves as a bed and breakfast .

Historic Scotland has listed Leslie Castle as a Category B Historic Building.

description

The base of the castle was a tower house with an L-shaped floor plan, which was provided with corner turrets. It has three full floors and an attic. At the time of listing in 1972, it was described as ruinous with collapsed ceilings.
