The Lessing Realschule , Wolfenbüttel , was one of 18 UNESCO project schools in Lower Saxony until 2014 . It is named after Gotthold Ephraim Lessing . School operations ended when the last students left on June 15, 2017. It was located in the west about 2 km from the city center.
history
The building was originally built for the Ravensberger Strasse orientation level; the commissioning took place after the 1975 summer vacation. Until 2004 it housed the orientation stage and the Lessing secondary school. Later the orientation level no longer existed. Until the end of the 2011/2012 school year, the "Junior THG" (5th and 6th grade of the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium ) was housed in part of the rooms. The "Junior-THG" has returned to the main location of the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium.
The Lessing Realschule was a discontinued school. At the beginning of the school year 2012/2013 no new classes in grade 5 were established. At the end of the 2016/17 school year, the Lessing Realschule was finally closed. In the school year 2013/14 only the years 8-10 were taught in a total of 9 classes, in the school year 2015/16 only 6 classes were taught. School operations in Wolfenbüttel ended with the departure of the last students on June 15, 2017.
The vacant rooms were taken over by the newly founded Henriette-Breymann-Gesamtschule , an integrated comprehensive school (IGS). This started school operations in the 2012/2013 school year with classes in grade 5.
The building complex has been called the "Ravensbergerstrasse School Center" since then.
Educational work
The Lessing Realschule actively supported the goals of UNESCO in its school and extracurricular activities . The profile of the school is thus shaped beyond the general tasks for the education and upbringing of the pupils in the Realschule.
Foreign language teaching
The school offered English as the first foreign language from grade five and French as an elective from grade seven . There was also an Italian AG at the school.
building
The rectangular main building was built on two floors around an atrium. The two octagonal honeycomb-shaped extensions go off the main building at a right angle. The classrooms are accessible here in a star shape around a central area. These central areas are illuminated with daylight via a light dome. The entire system is built in a staircase. All parts of the building are provided with a flat roof.
The old gym no longer met the requirements of modern physical education and was therefore torn down. A new gym, which can be divided into three segments, was built for a construction cost of 4 million euros. The gym has an extendable grandstand for 480 spectators and was inaugurated in November 2010.
Furnishing
In addition to the teachers' room and the classrooms, there are two biology halls, three physics halls, three chemistry halls, a multi-field gym, two art rooms, two music halls, a mediator room, three media rooms, a work room, a teaching kitchen, two computer rooms and a cafeteria.
IT equipment
All computers in the school have Internet ( DSL ) and intranet access , data projectors (mobile and permanently installed in several function rooms), mobile PC stations, scanners and printers.

- First prize in the student competition of the German Commission for UNESCO for the age group under 14 "Euro-Arab neighborhood - learning to live together", 2002
- The 4th prize in the Student Peace Prize 2000 for the impressive memorial event for the victims of the Nazi justice in Wolfenbüttel
