Latvian white pig

The Latvian white pig ( Latvian : Latvijas baltā ) is a breed of pig from Latvia .

Breeding history

The breed was created by crossing native Latvian pigs with Large White and partly German noble pigs . In 1967 the Latvian white pig was officially recognized as a multi-use breed.

  • Weight sows 251 kg, boars 321 kg
  • Time up to 100 kg: 192 days

There are 9 main lines and 16 families. The breed serves as the mother breed.

Occurrence

Main breeding centers are located in the Rajons Riga , Dobele , Jēkabpils , Liepāja and Aizkraukle in Latvia . The Latvian white pig makes up 95.8% of the Latvian pig population and amounted to 279,000 purebred animals in 1980.
