history

The 65,000 m² park between Nussdorfer Straße and Wienfluss was created after the line wall was razed. When the work was completed, the monument was erected. The design comes from the architect Johann Nepomuk Scheiringer . The execution took place from 1898 to 1906 with the sculptor Johann Scherpe . The unveiling took place on December 2, 1906, to commemorate the completion of the belt and its green spaces.

description

The nine meter high, slim obelisk is made of granite and bears the inscription: “ The gardens on the belt between Nussdorferstrasse and the Vienna River were built under Mayor Dr. Karl Lueger carried out from 1898 to 1906 after the application of the city council Karl Schreiner. "

The obelisk takes its name from the star illuminated by 92 light bulbs that used to adorn the top and also served as street lighting. There are also no longer two bronze girls who stood on the plinth next to the obelisk.
