The Paphos lighthouse is a lighthouse in the southwest of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus , near the city of Paphos in the district of the same name in the Republic of Cyprus . It irradiates a range of 17 nautical miles .
History and structure
The 20 meter high lighthouse was built in 1888 during the British colonial rule, as Cyprus was an important military point during that time to control trade routes to other colonies. The light marked the landfall where goods were being shipped from the UK to the port of Paphos.
The lighthouse is painted white and has a connection to a keeper's house and an outbuilding.
With a focal height of 36 m above sea level, its light can be seen from 17 nautical miles and consists of a long flash of white light that glows every fifteen seconds.
