The Robbenplate lighthouse was built in 1924/1925 in the Outer Weser northwest of Bremerhaven .
Location and history
It stands west of the Robbenplate sandbank and is now used as an overhead fire . In order to achieve a sufficient fire height, a mast was erected on the roof of the tower and the lantern was mounted at the top. The lantern house of the lighthouse comes from the switched off lighthouse Meyers Legde, which is also in the Aussenweser and was used from 1906 to 1918 to illuminate the fairway through the Wurster Arm.
In 1959, the first radar antenna to secure navigation in the Outer Weser was installed on this lighthouse . In 1992, the brick outer skin was covered with aluminum panels to protect the building fabric from erosion.
The lighthouse was completely automated after a renovation and has been uninhabited since then. The rooms and equipment of the former lighthouse keepers such as the telephone, kitchen, television and beds have been completely preserved so that appropriate accommodation for the maintenance technicians is available in the event of maintenance work.
