Leukarion
Leukarion ( ancient Greek Ληυκαρίον ) was a Greek sculptor who worked at the end of the 6th century BC. Was active on Naxos .
He is only known from an inscription on a marble statue base, which identifies him as the creator of a tomb of Theolist . It was found in 1977 in the left apse of the Byzantine Christ Church east of the Temple of Demeter near Sangri (coordinates of the place of discovery: 37 ° 1 ′ 46.4 ″ N, 25 ° 26 ′ 7.6 ″ E ). The base is now in the Archaeological Museum of Naxos .
The text of the inscription, written as a bustrophedon , reads:
- Ληυκαρίον ἐηπο
- ίεσήν μη Θεολίστεο μνῆ̣μα
