Leupung (also "Leupueng") is an Indonesian district in the province of Aceh Besar near the city of Banda Aceh , the capital of the semi-autonomous region of Aceh on the island of Sumatra .
history
The Indian Ocean earthquake in 2004 saw the district experience its Armageddon . While the population was around 10,000 before the earthquake, the tsunami that followed wiped it out to a few hundred people. Since then the number has increased again and in 2010, at the last census , was 2553 inhabitants. There were or are now six villages in Leupung: Deah , Meunasah Mesjid , Meunasah Bak U , Lamseunia , Pulot and Layeun .
