The Lever House in New York City, named after the company , was the former headquarters of Lever Brothers.

The company Lever Brothers was a British drugstore items - and later also food producers .

The company was founded in 1885 by William Hesketh Lever and his brother James. Initially, only detergents and soaps were produced. The company became famous with the soap Sunlight Soap , the production of which started in the year it was founded; it is one of the oldest branded articles available to date . The “Dove” wash item is still produced today in the oldest German lever factory in Mannheim . The Helvetia soap factory was founded as the first continental European subsidiary in 1898 in Olten , Switzerland, and renamed the Sunlight soap factory in 1909.

The company became known, among other things, for the fact that it had extensive social benefits that were modern for the time .

In 1917 it was also decided to set up a grocery line. In 1930 Lever Brothers merged with Margarine Unie (in Germany Margarine Union ), which also used animal fats as the basis for their products, to form Unilever .
