Lev Michailowitsch Schilzow
Lev Mikhailowitsch Schilzow (Russian: Лев Михайлович Жильцов) (born February 2, 1928 in Nachabino , † February 27, 1996 in Moscow ) was a submarine commander of the Soviet Navy and admiral of the Cold War. Schilzow was trained at the Caspian Red Banner Officers College of the Naval Forces SM Kirow . As the commander of the first North Pole voyage of the nuclear submarine K-3 Leninsky Komsomol , he was named Hero of the Soviet Union .
He was promoted to Rear Admiral in 1975 and retired from active service in 1977.
