The Lewis Island is a small, rocky, and up to 30 m high island before Clarie Coast of the East Antarctic Wilke country . It marks the east side of the entrance to Davis Bay .
Aerial photographs of the US American Operation Highjump (1946–1947) were used to map them. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them in 1963 after James Battaile Lewis (1810-1883), Passed Midshipman on the sloop USS Peacock in the United States Exploring Expedition (1838-1842) under the direction of Charles Wilkes .
