particularities

Lake no longer available

The Lhagba Pool (or Lhakpa Pool ) in Tibet was considered to be the highest lake on earth with a specified height of 6368  m .

It was located on the edge of the Eastern Rongpu Glacier about 10 km northeast of the summit of Mount Everest and below the Lhakpa Ri ( 7745  m ). The lake no longer exists today.

However, it is very doubtful whether it was really a lake or not just a meltwater pool of the glacier. The "discovery" is based on the National Geographic Map of Mount Everest from 1999. Likewise, its name is probably only owed to the adjacent place names, the Lhakpa La pass and the Lhakpa Ri summit. Accordingly, the record could also come from the even higher, nameless crater lake of the Ojos del Salado .
