The Li-iL GmbH medicines, medicinal baths, is a family run traditional company based in Dresden . Various pharmaceuticals and cosmetic products have been developed and marketed since 1910. The company specializes in the development of bath products, essences and rubs.

history

At the beginning of the 20th century, Dresden was a center of the health movement in Germany. The skin, the largest organ in the body, became the focus of interest. But so far, bath additives have been used without sufficient knowledge of their composition, bathing time and water temperature. In 1910, during a stay at a spa, Richard Carl Pittlik had the brilliant idea: For the first time, he wanted to produce medicinal baths that were medically coordinated, clinically tested and produced with natural active ingredients. In 1910, Pittlik founded Deutsche Arzneimittelwerke Li-iL in Dresden. The name Li-iL stands for lithium , the carrier substance of essential oils and for IIatum, the principle of action from the outside in.

Until World War II

With his scientific colleagues, Rose, Bergmann and the metabolism specialist Rutz, Pittlik improved the effectiveness of the medicinal baths through extensive experiments. And finally they achieved the breakthrough: The “Dr. Bergmanns Oxygen Bath ", the circulation-stimulating" Tripinat Bath "and the gynecological bath" Damana "were made available to the medical practice. In quick succession, more baths such. B. against rheumatism and skin diseases as well as oils for foot and body care. The company grew steadily and a new, larger location was needed. Li-iL moved to Leipziger Straße within Dresden, which is still the company's headquarters and production site today. More and more products were developed and even presented internationally. In 1926 the company received the gold medal of the city of Düsseldorf on the occasion of the trade fair for health, social affairs and physical exercise.

Ernestine Gabriele Böhme and Josef Osterroth took over the Li-iL plant after the early death of the company founder Pittlik. They expanded the product range with rubs such as "Camphoderm" and "Tussidermil". More than 6000 doctors, hospitals and sanatoriums were regular customers. The medical treatment with Li-iL products was supported and reimbursed by the health insurance companies and welfare institutions.

Although Dresden was badly damaged in World War II, the Li-iL company buildings remain intact. Böhme and her employees immediately resumed production, albeit with a product range reduced by half.

1950s to 2000

The product range has been continuously expanded. Numerous new trademark registrations followed. In the 1960s, as for almost all businesses in the GDR, the economic framework conditions deteriorated noticeably. Li-iL struggled with a lack of raw materials and political interference. Nevertheless, Böhme managed to successfully continue the company.

In 1972, despite massive opposition, Li-iL was forcibly nationalized and assigned to VEB Arzneimittelwerk Dresden, which in turn belongs to the "GERMED" combine. With this restructuring, the company's production volume was greatly increased. However, this also led to a restriction in the development activities for new products. Li-iL now also produced fine chemicals such as B. Made-to-measure solutions for the chemical industry. Business connections to Eastern Europe, Africa and Arabia were cultivated, which made Li-iL products known especially in these areas. Studies have been carried out with many health care products from Li-iL in order to gain further scientific knowledge about them and to improve their pharmaceutical effect.

The " turning point " in November 1989 changed the political situation in East Germany and created the basis for completely new opportunities.

For many companies in the former GDR, the struggle for survival began with German reunification. Only a few were able to assert themselves in the new economic system. The fact that Li-iL managed this step was largely thanks to the commitment and confidence of the new owners, who felt close to the city of Dresden due to family roots. The family company HOLTSCH Medizinprodukte GmbH in Taunusstein took over Li-iL from the trust in the course of reprivatisation and made extensive investments to modernize and enlarge the production and laboratory rooms.

Li-iL put the focus back on the development of new products and introduced the DRESDNER ESSENZ cosmetics brand. The first new products were cosmetic liquid and powder baths as well as sauna infusions, which were developed on the basis of existing knowledge and the latest scientific findings in the field of body care. Li-iL succeeded in successfully positioning the DRESDNER ESSENZ brand on the national and international market.

In the 21st century

Numerous new products were developed. In addition to traditional drugs, cosmetic products were sold under the DRESDNER ESSENZ brand. The DRESDNER ESSENZ range includes bath products, shower gels, sauna infusions and high-quality body care products such as face masks and body lotions. The range of the various series ranges from products with traditional medicinal herbs to innovative wellness products and the DRECKSPATZ children's series. DRESDNER ESSENZ products are available in all German drugstores and specialist shops. Around 26% are exported, with the main sales areas being Europe, North America and Asia. The increasing demand for Li-iL products can be secured through extensive investments and modernization of the production and laboratory rooms.

For 100 years, Li-iL has been able to refer to the medical effectiveness of medicinal herb extracts in their bath products and rubs. In the spirit of the founder, Richard Carl Pittlik, only selected raw materials are used today and plant-based materials are preferred. The product range is subject to strict quality control and is constantly being improved and updated.

After the national and international success of the DRESDNER ESSENZ brand, the family-run company is now expanding its range with an exclusive line of pharmacies and is combining new and tried-and-tested products in a fresh, modern design under the “Li-iL” brand. The five proven medicines Tussidermil N and Camphoderm N and three medicinal baths - are supplemented by five health baths, such as the harmonizing "Li-iL Lavender Bath Relaxation" or the anti-inflammatory and skin-soothing "Li-iL Chamomile Bath Skin Wellbeing".

The factory outlet opened on the company's premises in Dresden in 2013. DRESDNER ESSENZ launched a new natural cosmetics line in 2016: DRESDNER ESSENZ NATURELL. The products are NATRUE certified and vegan. In the course of this, the DRECKSPATZ products were also adapted to become vegan and also NATRUE-certified. The pharmacy-exclusive Li-iL cosmetics received a new product design in 2017 and the Detox and Skin Type lines were added.
