Li Bifeng (* 1965 in the People's Republic of China ) is a Chinese activist and writer. He has been in Chinese captivity since 1998.

Life and Imprisonment

In 1998, the poet and democracy advocate Li Bifeng wrote a report about the sit-in of a group of textile workers on a Chinese highway and passed it on to these human rights organizations abroad. As early as 1989, after taking part in the protest on Tiananmen Square and having been on the run for six months, he was caught and imprisoned for " economic crime " for twelve years.

In November 2012, 48-year-old Li Bifeng was sentenced to another 12 years in prison for no plausible reason, without evidence and despite global protests. The authorities suspect him of helping his friend, the writer Liao Yiwu , winner of the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade 2012, in his escape to Germany the year before .

On June 4, 2013 the international literature festival berlin held a worldwide reading for Li Bifeng.
