Li Hai
Li Hai ( Chinese 李海 ; born May 2, 1954 in Beijing ) is a Chinese writer and dissident .
Li Hai was a PhD student in philosophy at Beijing's elite Beida University in 1989 when the Tian'anmen massacre struck. "Because he wanted to organize a memorial service for the dead a year later, Li was arrested along with around 700 other Beijingers." After six months, he was released from prison and forcibly de-registered.
He was arrested again in May 1995 and sentenced to 9 years in prison for "snooping around state secrets". Today Li Hai lives as a freelance writer in Beijing and is one of China's best-known critics of the regime.
