Li Yan (officer)

Li Yan (李 嚴 / 李 严, Lǐ Yán) († 234 ) was an officer under Liu Zhang and Liu Bei .

Li Yan surrendered to Liu Bei after he beat his Mr. Liu Zhang at Yizhou . Zhuge Liang , the Shu Han Prime Minister , often compared his skills with those of Lu Xun of the Wu . But because he was unable to hold the supply camp on Zhuge Liang's Northern Expeditions , the latter removed him from his rank and sent him into exile. His position was replaced by his son Li Feng. Li Yan's hope for rehabilitation was not fulfilled. He died bitterly a common man shortly after Zhuge Liang's death.
