Liceo classico Arnaldo
The state Liceo classico Arnaldo is the humanistic high school in the Italian city of Brescia on Corso Magenta 56. It was founded in 1797 and named after Arnold von Brescia .
history
The Arnaldo High School was founded in September 1797 during the brief period of the Republic of Brescia. The founding name was "Ginnasio", which was later changed to "Liceo del Mella Department" (November 1797). During the nineteenth century, the Liceo acquired a botanical garden and also conducted scientific studies. Under Austrian rule (1815-1859) the name was changed to "Imperial Regio Liceo". The dedication to Arnaldo da Brescia took place only after the annexation of Brescia by the Kingdom of Sardinia (1859). The original seat was in the monastery of San Domenico. In December 1823 the Liceo was relocated to the Palazzo Bargnani and from August 1925 the headquarters moved to the Palazzo Poncarali Oldofredi on Corso Magenta 56. In 2019, the restoration work on the building was completed.
activities
Alternative teaching days take place (Schola Ludens) with lessons that are designed by the students themselves. Extraordinary activities include the theater group, the school newspaper L'Eretico , the working group on the history of the 20th century and the political collective Arnaldo.
