Light test

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Light test is a televoting process from 1969 that worked without a telephone.

During the light test, viewers were asked to switch on as many electrical consumers as possible in their apartment. Employees of the electricity works then monitored the increase in electricity consumption. In the show " Wünsch Dir was " with Dietmar Schönherr and Vivi Bach ( ZDF , 1970s), a city was always selected that was to vote on candidate families by switching the lights on and off in the apartment. This was called a light test and was monitored by an employee in the respective power plant. He was called from the studio and then stated how much the power consumption had increased during the vote. Then everyone was asked to switch off again in order to keep the initial situation the same for the next candidates.

From 1979, a telephone voting system was available with TED .

Because of the high load on the local power grid, a modified form of the light test was carried out for some consequences in “Wünsch dir Was”. The audience was asked to open the taps and flush the toilet. This alternative procedure was later also discontinued because of criticism about water waste.
