Wünsch Dir was was an Austrian - German - Swiss TV game show as a joint production under the leadership of ORF . In the period from December 20, 1969 to December 2, 1972, a total of 24 episodes were broadcast on ZDF .

    People involved

The Saturday evening show was moderated by Dietmar Schönherr and his wife Vivi Bach , the authors were Peter Hajek and Guido Baumann , head of entertainment at Swiss television, with the creative participation of André Heller . Baumann was also a producer. The program was invented by Dieter Böttger ( ORF head of entertainment) and Josef Kirschner . The director was Michael Pflegehar . Kuno Knöbl , former head of entertainment at ORF, also played a key role in the creation and production of Wünsch Dir was .

    Conception

Candidates for each program were three families, one from each participating country of production. Each took a seat on the television stage in a spiral-like seat, the so-called family snail. The thematic complexes and games of the programs were designed by André Heller, among others, and new and sometimes provocative ideas were consciously implemented. So it was not only about knowledge performance, but also z. B. about the interaction of family members with each other.

The families had to prove themselves in discussion groups as well as guessing and action games, whereby playing the games was often characterized by overcoming oneself. For example, family members should deal with giant snakes or crawl across thin ice. A fixed point of the series was a guessing game in which a mostly tiny detail from the family's apartment could be guessed on a photo - taken during a visit by the TV team.

Make a wish is considered an early form of interactive television : The viewers at a certain location were able to determine the winner of a program by voting for the respective candidate family either by switching on electrical devices ( light test ) or by flushing the toilet. The additional consumption read on the central power meter in the water and electricity companies of the selected cities was communicated to the television audience by means of an activated telephone call. The light test goes back to the use during a “city duel” as part of two television programs in 1967 and 1968, when the television audience was involved in decisions about the program by operating light switches under the title “Servus Zurich - Grüezi Wien”. In later "Wünsch-Dir-Was" broadcasts, the light test procedure was reversed and not switching on, but switching off electrical devices was used for the measurement.

    particularities

    • The 17-year-old candidate Leonie Stöhr showed her breasts in a semi-transparent blouse on the program of November 7, 1970, which was considered a scandal.
    • The Austrian radio supervisory authority criticized it when moderator Schönherr allegedly showed sympathy for the SPÖ during the election campaign on his show with a red carnation on his lapel .
    • In 1972, the painter Friedensreich Hundertwasser presented his models of houses with green roofs, some of which were also implemented in reality. He also had himself filmed at a house, the facade of which he decorated in the window area with his distinctive painting, without having first obtained the owner's permission.
    • A game in which a candidate family was sunk in a car in a water basin and had to free themselves from it caused a scandal in the program of March 27, 1971. A candidate could not open the door and had to be rescued by divers. The event was parodied by Loriot on episode 19 of Cartoon .
