The Minstrels were a Swiss musical group . The band consisted of Daniel "Dani" Fehr (piano, banjo), Mario Feurer (violin) and Pepe Solbach (guitar, voice).

Band history

In 1967 the band got together in Zurich . First they went as traveling musicians in minstrel costumes through Zurich's restaurants, with a repertoire of folk, blues and Swiss folk music. A television appearance as part of the OLMA in St. Gallen in October 1969 made her famous in one fell swoop. Grüezi well, Frau Stirnimaa! A few days later moved into second place in the Swiss charts . The song stayed in the top 10 for seventeen weeks, ten weeks of which it was number 1. It was also placed in Germany (third place) and Austria (fifth) and sold 1.5 million times in 27 countries.

At the end of 1970 the three musicians bought and moved into a 16-room house in the Tobel in Trogen . A studio was installed in the basement, which was used for recordings. In 1971 the Minstrels released their debut album Chrüsimüsi (Swiss German for "mess"). The band gave numerous concerts and appeared in television and movies. One of these guest roles consisted of a disco appearance in What's wrong with Willi? . In the film, Willis ( Heinz Erhardts ) is the landlady of Frau Stirnimaa, sung about by the Minstrels, played by Helen Vita .

The Minstrels could no longer build on the commercial success of their greatest hit. In 1970 the single hit Hopp de Bäse! 2nd place in the Swiss charts and stayed in the top 10 for four weeks. In 1974 the group broke up. Grüezi probably appeared later , Frau Stirnimaa mostly on party samplers. In 2001 the title came out in a remix version by producer Carlos Perón .

Later activities

Mario Feurer withdrew from the music scene after two more band projects.

Pepe Solbach founded the experimental theater group “Tarot” with Dodo Hug and Christoph Marthaler , and he also composed the score for the film “ De Grotzepuur ”.

Only Fehr is still musically active with the folk music trio "Gad'ase". In 2008 this trio performed in Switzerland together with Solbach, who told anecdotes from the band's history.
