Kuno Knöbl

Kuno Knöbl (actually Konrad Knöbl-Kastellitz; ) (born December 21, 1936 in Graz ; † August 11, 2012 ) was an Austrian cabaret artist , journalist and head of entertainment at ORF .

Life

At the end of the 1950s, Knöbl founded the Graz student cabaret Der Würfel , together with Peter Orthofer , Dieter Gogg and Gerhard Steffen , which appeared on Austrian television as early as 1961 with the program Weh dem who rebukes . Gerhard Bronner then brought the cube to Vienna and added Eva Pilz, Felix Dvorak and Erich Frank. As a result, Knöbl worked for the daily newspaper Neues Österreich and reported critically on the Vietnam War as a special correspondent from the United States . After the broadcasting reform, Gerd Bacher appointed Knöbl head of entertainment at ORF . In this role, he designed and directed, among other things, the successful discussion program Club 2 .

He also developed the concept for the Impulse channel, which was broadcast from January 20, 1972 , in which avant-garde artists and young filmmakers were given the opportunity to convey their artistic work in a mass medium. In 1974 he took part in Thor Heyerdahl's entourage to cross the Pacific with a Chinese junk .

From 1969 to 1972 Knöbl was involved in the design of the always exciting family game show Wünsch Dir was (moderation: Dietmar Schönherr and Vivi Bach , editor: Dieter Böttger) and in 1969 on the legendary "Bed in" by Yoko Ono and John Lennon at the Vienna Hotel Sacher (Interviewer: André Heller ).

In 1969 he was primarily responsible for the television program "Rape": through the participation of ORF, he enabled John Lennon to create a fictional documentary in which the brutality of the medium was made transparent. The world premiere of this film was on March 31, 1969 on Austrian television.

Under his responsibility as head of entertainment, the comedy show “Lodynski's Flea Market Company” was created, for which the ORF received the only Golden Rose d'Or of the television festival in Montreux in 1971 , while the silver went to Monty Python's Flying Circus .

In 1986 he co-founded the Republican Club - New Austria .
