Peter Orthofer

Peter Orthofer (born June 17, 1940 in Berlin ; † February 13, 2008 in Vienna ) was a German-Austrian journalist , writer and cabaret writer . He has also written texts for songs and chansons by Marianne Mendt , Gerhard Bronner and Kurt Sowinetz .

Life

He spent his childhood in Berlin and later in Styria ; then he attended grammar school in Graz , where he graduated from high school . He studied philosophy and German in Graz and Vienna. Through his sister, the actress Monika Orthofer , he joined the student cabaret “ Der Würfel ”, where he worked as a conferencier and wrote numerous texts.

In 1961 Orthofer stayed in Vienna after a guest performance by the “Würfel” and worked in the “Fledermaus” bar and at the Theater am Kärntnertor , where he was responsible for the successful program Die Arche Nowak in 1963 .

In 1964 his son Michael Orthofer was born, whom his mother, painter and interior designer, took to New York in 1965, where he still lives today and the literature database The Complete Review is on the web . A literary saloon and site of review .

Peter Orthofer also designed the TV programs Zeitventil and Die Große Glocke with Gerhard Bronner . Orthofer founded the literary magazine Reflexe with Barbara Frischmuth and was also one of the initiators of the Graz City Park Forum .

In 1976 Orthofer's collaboration with the cabaret artist Hans-Peter Heinzl began , which only ended with his death in 1996. Together they designed and produced over 20 successful cabaret programs. The Lex Minister program was filmed in 1990 by Peter Patzak . After Heinzl's death, Orthofer wrote mainly for Alfons Haider , for whom he then wrote all cabaret programs as well as book and song texts for musicals. The author's last major stage play was a musical about a modern Joan of Arc with the title C'est la vie . It was premiered in 2007 at the Stockerau Open Air Festival . He also wrote with and for Franz Antel .

In 1989 he founded the cabaret and cabaret festival " Ybbsiade " in Ybbs an der Donau, of which he was director for many years .

In 2001 he was awarded the title of professor .

Peter Orthofer was buried in an honorary grave in the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 40, number 78).
