Jens Seiler (born July 6, 1966 in Northeim ) is a German memory artist and memory trainer who works under the stage name Jens der Denker .

biography

Jens Seiler was born with a bilateral foot disability. After his parents moved to Groß-Gerau in the Rhine-Main area, he spent the next 14 years of his childhood almost continuously in the university clinics in Frankfurt / Main. Private tutors encouraged him to learn shorthand in self-study . He was particularly interested in lexicons, which he was already beginning to learn by heart.

Seiler has been working full-time as a memory trainer since 1996 and appears at events in Germany and in 35 countries around the world with the show "The magic of thinking - brain performance beyond the imaginable" . The director of this stage show is the dramaturge Dieter E. Neuhaus. Seiler also appeared at a gala evening at the World Economic Summit in Davos and in August 2006 for the Foreign Office.

In his seminars, Seiler teaches techniques to be able to memorize things quickly and easily. The basis for this is the ancient Greek mnemonics , with the help of which he learned huge amounts of data by heart. Among other things, he has mastered the 30-volume Brockhaus encyclopedia and all 101,100 questions of the classic game Trivial Pursuit that have appeared so far . He put this to the test with a live appearance on the RTL Saturday evening show "Incredible - The Show of Oddities" on December 15, 2007.

He has developed a hands-on lecture children and young people think especially for schoolchildren , for which he was awarded in 2005 by the then Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg Günther Oettinger . With this lecture he is visiting schools all over Germany; the high point of this project so far was a tour through Turkey.

On September 8, 2008, Jens Seiler was unanimously elected 1st chairman of the Klug - Klüger eV association based in Berlin. This association is committed to promoting the education of young people in Germany. Seiler supported this association with his lectures and books until he left in 2015.

The association was included in the 2008 calendar of ideas by the German Savings Banks Association with the reasoning: "Your idea for a child-friendly Germany was selected by our jury as one of the best proposals and presented on the Gut für Kinder website on October 25, 2008. "

In 2002 the daily newspaper Die Welt published a full-page article about Jens Seiler.

World records

Seiler used to hold four different world records:

  • For a minute he had two-digit numbers called out to him using any basic arithmetic function. The audience had calculators, Jens Seiler didn't. Nevertheless, after 17 numbers and the associated invoices, the result matched up to the third digit after the decimal point. This record was set during the Hessentag 2003. Witnesses were employees of the Hessian Ministry of Culture, representatives of the Hessian Radio and numerous live visitors.
  • Within a minute, Jens Seiler memorized a 72-digit sequence of numbers and reproduced them directly. He set his first record with 48 numbers during the live broadcast of the Bavarian Radio “Guinness Show of Records”. Two weeks later he increased this record to 72 digits in Munich. Witnesses were u. a. Hape Kerkeling , Nadja Auermann , Reinhold Beckmann and numerous TV viewers. This world record has since been broken by Erfurt's Gunther Karsten and is now 102 digits.
  • Jens Seiler filled out a magic square with four by four fields completely and correctly in 11.4 seconds. The record was set at the Dull brothers' artist fair in July 1996 in Sindelfingen. Witnesses were the Dull brothers as well as the attending trade fair visitors.
  • Concentration came with the first world record live at Wetten, dass ..? on. In February 1986 he was typing 320 characters per minute in reverse typewriter. In August 1986 the then reigning Hessian typist Silvia Labusch challenged him to a duel. This duel took place as part of the trade fair of the Groß-Gerau trade association in Groß-Gerau, Hesse. Jens, the thinker, typed 826 net strokes per minute - backwards.
