Liebelle - counseling center on sexuality and intellectual disabilities

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Liebelle - advice, research and education center on sexuality and intellectual disabilities was founded in Mainz in 2015 and is a cooperation project of in.betrieb gGmbH Society for Participation and Integration (formerly WfB Manufacturing & Service gGmbH) and the local pro familia association Mainz. The project is scientifically supported by Svenja Heck, professor at the Faculty of Social Work at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences , previously lecturer in special education at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz . The Liebelle offers people with intellectual disabilities from the age of 16 individual and couple counseling as well as educational seminars on the subject of "love, sexuality and intellectual disabilities". In addition, it offers advice, events and further training for parents and relatives as well as for specialists and schools on this topic. The Liebelle was developed as a model project that for the first time networks the competencies of three specialist departments and brings together the previously selective support offers through the establishment of a cross-agency contact point.

project goal

By conveying a positive approach to love, partnership and sexuality, Liebelle would like to support people with disabilities in exercising their right to sexual self-determination. The prevention of sexual violence is also an essential part of this. The offers are aimed equally at parents, professionals and people with intellectual disabilities. They are easy to access, the rooms are barrier-free and the information materials appear in easy language . With scientific support, the project would also like to stimulate technical and scientific discourse and be a role model for other contact points, strengthen supra-regional networking and bring the topic of "sexuality and intellectual disabilities" into society and remove taboos. In this combination, the Liebelle is unique in Germany, according to the educational scientist Svenja Heck.
