from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lieberkuhn organelle (engl. Organelle of Lieberkühn or watch glass organelle ) is a lenticular light refracting formation of the outer skin ( Pelliula ) in the wall of the buccal cavity with ciliates of the suborder Ophryoglenina . The function of the organelle is unknown; involvement in the invasion of parasitic ciliates in their host is discussed.
