from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The song book for Lower Saxony is a handy song book that contains around 280 pages of High and Low German songs from all regions of Lower Saxony . Rolf Wilhelm Brednich (Department of Folklore at the University of Göttingen ) carried out the selection and processing in collaboration with Roland Wohlfart. It was published in 1994 by the Lower Saxony Heimatbund eV

Structure and content

The 311-page songbook contains a foreword and introduction, a table of contents, the song section and an appendix.

The song part (pages 11–290) is divided into the chapters work , strangers , thoughts , home , historical ballads , year and day , children , love and joke . This part contains around 300 songs in High and Low German - around 100 of them in Low German or typical regional (e.g. Harz) language. Each song is presented with all stanzas , with notes (unanimous, without chords ) and with a short explanation.

The appendix contains a list of sources and a list of the songs (consecutively by chapter and in alphabetical order).

The editor writes in the introduction: “The purpose of this songbook is aimed at singing and the active acquisition of the texts and melodies it contains. It is therefore not a primarily scientific edition, but a collection for use, a book of useful songs. "
