Ex-military doctor Dr. Alex Rode decides not to extend his contract with the Bundeswehr and instead takes a job as a surgeon in the fictional Cologne Hubertus Hospital. There he caused a stir with the hospital management and his ex-girlfriend, the newly appointed senior physician Dr. Laura Seifert.
