Scanners that record and store anatomical features of the human body are referred to as biometric acquisition or lifescan .

In this process fingerprints or palm prints of a suspected criminal are thus in the course of the procedure according to §§ 81b, ff. StPO recorded.

These digital recordings are then sent electronically to the State Criminal Police Office or to the Federal Criminal Police Office and compared with existing traces or saved for further procedures.
