The League of Faith and Hope ( Chinese 信心 希望 聯盟 , Pinyin Xìnxīn xīwàng liánméng , English Faith And Hope League , FHL ) is a Christian Democratic party in the Republic of China (Taiwan) .
history
The party was founded on September 6, 2015 by Joanna Lei (雷倩), a former member of the KMT or Xindang , together with some Christian pastors. The immediate foundation was the planned legalization of same-sex marriage in Taiwan. The party spoke out against it, instead propagating traditional family values and declaring that it wanted to offer a “Christian political platform”. She called for a referendum on the question of legalizing same-sex marriage.
In the election for the legislative yuan on January 16, 2016 , the FHL achieved 206,629 votes (1.69%) and landed well below the five percent hurdle that must be overcome in order to be eligible for the legislative yuan . None of their candidates could win a seat in parliament. The party achieved the highest share of the vote with 10.33% in Yanping in Taitung County , a community with a high proportion of indigenous Christian populations. The party also achieved above-average results in the Xindian and Banqiao districts of New Taipei City .
In the referendum in Taiwan 2018 , in which, among other things, same-sex marriage was voted on, the league was part of the Grand Alliance of Taiwanese Religious Associations for the Protection of the Family ( 台灣 宗教團體 愛護 oder 大 聯盟 ), or family alliance for short , which opposed the introduction same-sex marriage agitated. Ultimately, Taiwanese voters rejected the introduction of same-sex marriage by a clear majority.
