Banqiao , also Banciao or Panchiao ( Chinese 板橋 區 , Pinyin Bǎnqiáo Qū , Pe̍h-ōe-jī Pang-kiô ) is a district of the city of New Taipei in northern Taiwan , Republic of China .
Until 2010, Banqiao, with a population of around 550,000, was an independent city and the administrative seat of Taipei County, which became part of the newly founded city of New Taipei on December 25, 2010. Since then, the New Taipei City Council has been located in Banqiao.
Location and traffic
Banqiao is located southwest of Taipei on the edge of the Taipei Basin . In the north of the district, the Dahan and Xindian rivers merge to form Danshui . In Banqiao there are five stations of the blue line of the Metro Taipei , which connects the district with Taipei. All trains on the Taiwan High Speed Rail between Taipei and Kaohsiung stop in Banqiao, as do conventional trains.
tourism
The residence and garden of the Lin merchant family, built in Banqiao in the 19th century and restored in the 1980s, is an outstanding example of Chinese architecture from the late Qing Dynasty in Taiwan.
