Location and importance

Located on the Dahan River , a major tributary of the Tamsui River , the district borders the neighboring Taishan and Wugu districts to the north, the Sanchong district to the east, the Banqiao and Shulin districts to the south, and Taoyuan city to the west .

The district is connected to the Taipei subway network and is home to the Fu Jen Catholic University .

The Xinzhuang Baseball Stadium is located in the district .

Thanks to its favorable location on the Dahan River with its connection to the busy shipping traffic on the Tamsui River, trade and commerce have flourished in Xinzhuang since the 18th century and the place became the nucleus of the developing city of Taipei . The declining importance of the Tamsui as a waterway and the construction of a railway line in the neighboring town of Banqiao led to a temporary weakening of the economic importance of Xinzhuang at the beginning of the Japanese rule over Taiwan . In the course of the industrialization of Taiwan, companies settled in Xinzhuang that processed agricultural products from the surrounding areas. At the same time, the place benefited from the rapid growth of the metropolis of Taipei, so that Xinzhuang is once again one of the economically most important districts in the greater Taipei area.
