History and meaning
Archaeological finds have shown that the area of today's district was already used by members of different cultures in prehistoric times, e.g. B. the Shisanhang culture , was inhabited. Before the arrival of Chinese settlers in the early 18th century, the area's population consisted of indigenous people from the Ketagalan tribe . Since the Linkou Plateau is only partially suitable for agriculture, the population density was limited until the beginning of the industrialization of Taiwan during the Japanese rule over Taiwan . After tea plantations and brick factories were established in Linkou during the colonial period , heavy industry and office buildings also settled in before and after the Second World War , which led to a sharp increase in the population in the second half of the 20th century.
The Linkou coal-fired power station is on the edge of Linkou . The private Hsing Wu University is located in Linkou . The Taiwan University of Education ( Taipei headquarters ) maintains a sub- campus in Linkou. The main attraction of the district is the Zhulinshan Temple , built in 1801 .
