Shulin ( Chinese 樹林 區 , Pinyin Shùlín Qū , Pe̍h-ōe-jī Chhiū-nâ-khu ) is a district of the city of New Taipei in northern Taiwan , Republic of China .
Location and history
Shulin is located on the western outskirts of New Taipei. The district is bordered by Xinzhuang to the north, Banqiao and Tucheng to the east, Sanxia to the south , and Yingge and Taoyuan City to the west . The terrain is hilly to the west, but slopes down to the east.
The area was settled by Chinese immigrants in the 18th and 19th centuries who cleared the plains in the east. With the rise of the nearby Taipei to a large and industrial city, the economic structure of Shulin also changed, in which small to medium-sized industrial companies have settled since the beginning of the 20th century.
meaning
Shulin has a population density in the middle range for New Taipei and has largely the character of a satellite city of nearby Taipei. Shulin itself has a number of medium-sized industrial districts .
A famous Shulin specialty is Âng-kak-chiú (紅 麴 酒, Taiwanese ; Chinese mostly 紅 露酒Hónglùjiǔ ), a schnapps made from red fermented rice . However, the factory location was relocated to Linkou in 2004 .
