Pinglin ( Chinese 坪林 區 , Pinyin Pínglín Qū , Pe̍h-ōe-jī Phiâⁿ-lîm ) is a district of the city of New Taipei in northern Taiwan , Republic of China .
Location and importance
Pinglin is located on the southeastern edge of New Taipei City and is the city's third largest district in terms of area. Its neighboring districts are Shiding in the west, Pingxi in the north, and Shuangxi in the east; to the south, Pinglin is bordered by Wulai District and Yilan District . The Beishi River flows through the district. The landscape of Pinglin is mainly hilly and is used for tea cultivation.
The population density of Pinglins is the second lowest in New Taipei City. Most of the residents of Pinglin are employed in tea cultivation. Pouchong tea is an important product . In 1997 the Pinglin Tea Museum was opened.
