Zhonghe , also Jhonghe or Chunghe , ( Chinese  中 和 區 , Pinyin Zhōnghé Qū , Tongyong Pinyin Jhonghé Cyu , W.-G. Chung-ho Ch'ü ), is a district of the city of New Taipei in the north of the Republic of China in Taiwan .

location

Zhonghe is located southwest of Taipei on the edge of the Taipei Basin . In the north the Xindian River forms the border with Taipei, in the south some hills extend into the city area. Neighboring districts in New Taipei are Banqiao in the northwest, Tucheng in the southwest, Xindian in the southeast and Yonghe in the northeast.

Zhonghe has a connection point to the motorway 3, which passes south of Taipei, and is on the orange Zhonghe line to the rail network underground Taipei connected.

history

In 1946 Zhonghe was still a rural community ( , Xiāng ) with less than 30,000 inhabitants. Due to the proximity to Taipei, the population grew strongly. In 1958, the new city of Yonghe was formed from the northeastern part of the municipality . Zhonghe and Yonghe are also referred to together as Shuanghe ( 雙 和  - "He twins"), which refers to the common part of the name He ( ). From 1979, when the place had 170,000 inhabitants, until 2010, Zhonghe had the official status of a large city ( , Shì ) in Taipei County. In 2010 it was the sixth largest city in Taiwan. Since New Taipei City was founded on December 25, 2010, Zhonge has the status of a borough ( , ).

Attractions

The Hongludi ( 烘爐 地 ) temple from the second half of the 18th century is located in Zhonghe . In 1996, a 33 meter high colossal statue , visible from afar, depicting the Chinese earth deity Tudigong ( 土地公 ) was inaugurated here. It is the largest statue in Taiwan.
